Life Poems Travel

Newfoundland

Written by Paul Bateman

The world in which we travel

I travelled the world
With Shirley
Lighter than air
Bright as the sun

The two of us
Together
On a journey
Anywhere

Now we orbit Spotswood
In the shadow of a bridge
By the banks of a river
At the mouth of a bay

This postage stamp
Our Newfoundland
This miniature
Our home

  • Oh nice to rest in the spare rhythmic clarity of your words Paul, ‘In the shadow of a bridge/By the banks of a river/At the mouth of a bay.’ Thank you.
